What if aliens invaded, but they were more akin to mischievous children, as opposed to being an actual global threat? That is the premise of the quirky new slot from Elk Studios; Visitors. Yes, the aliens are here, and yes they occasionally abduct cows and start the odd fire. But really, once the humans have had enough, they are more than capable of sending the annoying green terrors back to the stars.
Elk Studios obviously had a ton fun with this one, using cartoony graphics, silly sounds, and more than enough charm to keep things interesting. Visitors clearly isn’t supposed to be taken seriously, and there certainly won’t be any comparisons to Independence Day.
But that doesn’t mean there still isn’t a heap of fun to be had, especially when the player manages to trigger a bonus round.
Visitors utilises a rather unusual, but certainly creative, 5 reel and 5 row grid. Each symbol appears as a house, as seen from above, giving the impression that the player is looking down on a town. The effect is that the player is seeing from the alien’s point of view, which is an approach deserves special mention, just for sheer imagination.
As far as the base game is concerned, the slot comes with a host of special features, all of which are supposed represent the alien’s attempts to mess with earthlings. Expanding Wilds and Sticky Wilds are, apparently, the extra-terrestrial version of a prank, transforming houses into warped versions of themselves. Whatever the justification, the special symbols go a long way to helping rack up some seriously impressive payouts.
When the humans in Visitors have finally had enough of the nonsense, they will call up the military and bring in the heavy artillery. Though, they won’t be doing so unless 3 Bonus symbols are matched.
Either way, upon seeing the Free Spins Bonus game in this slot most will be quick to agree that Elk Studios, without question, have creativity in spades. The mini-game involves a 25 space grid, many alien spaceships, and a whole lot of explosions. Silver and more valuable Gold spaceships will randomly appear on the grid, grant a payout, then get blown to smithereens. But, where each ship explodes a frame appears, granting a multiplier to whichever ship lands there during the next spin.
Say what you will about an alien invasion, if it turns out to be as much fun and as lucrative as the Visitors, we can all start looking forward to it.
