With a single ceremonial dice roll at 11 pm on Friday September 29, the long-awaited Parq Vancouver gaming resort officially opened its doors to Canadian players. It has been over two years since construction first started on the Paragon Gaming-owned complex, and now the $700 million gaming venue has finally become a reality for its developers, Parq Holdings Limited Partnership.
Labelled by its developers as the largest private development anywhere in British Columbia, the new gaming complex is situated in Vancouver on the northern side of False Creek, west from the BC Place Stadium and just opposite the stadium’s Gate G. The brand new extension of Smithe Street is where locals will find the new casino’s main entrance, adorned by a sculpture of two pandas by Chinese sculptor and artist Zhang Huan.
In a recent press conference, Paragon Gaming co-founder Scott Menke commented that the entertainment district, and the stadium district as locals know it, will forever be changed, with customers visiting the stadium for events set to enjoy an ‘elevated experience’. According to the Daily Hive, Menke also commented that the project is much more about tourism than any other factor.
With large exterior bronze mirrors, a unique structural shape and over 775,000 square feet of floor space, the new complex will no doubt attract plenty of tourism with its two high-end hotels; the Douglass and the JW Marriott, both operated by Marriott International Inc. Between the 6th and 25th floors, the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver hotel boasts 281 rooms, 44 suites, 3 luxury suites, a modern fitness studio, and an in-house, 10,000 square-foot Spa by JW. The Douglass boasts 10 suites and 178 rooms across the 7th and 17th floors of the complex, along with a lobby bar and a full-sized Douglas Fir tree replica to match the surrounding native pines.
Both hotels will offer guests full access to Parq Vancouver’s amenities, which include downtown’s online casino – the recently relocated Edgewater Casino. The 72,000 square-foot gaming venue offers 75 gaming tables, 600 slot machines, a poker room, and 11 salon privés, in which VIPs can enjoy in-salon dining and full-service VIP hosts. Parq Vancouver also boasts eight restaurants and lounges, including 1886, Honey Salt, The Victor, and the Lotus Whiskey and Tea Lounge. Two other eateries provide more casual dining opportunities, which can be enjoyed alongside 13 ballrooms, boardrooms, and convention space. Vancouver’s newest casino hotel complex employs more than 2,000 locals, 600 of which are staff at its restaurants and lounges. Furthermore, Parq Vancouver is apparently planning on donating $1.5 million to St Paul’s Hospital Foundation to fund the treatment and research of addiction disorders.
