What first strikes visitors of the historic Casino de Charlevoix is just how stunning the Chateau-esque architecture of the venue is in person. The earthy tones of this beautiful estate blend in perfectly with the natural beauty surrounding it, as it is situated on the sun soaked cliffs of the Pointe-au-Pic. The panoramic view visitors can enjoy here is what inspired the plans to convert the former Manoir Richelieu’s go-to summer playhouse into one of the grandest casino experiences you can have in the West.
The Casino de Charlevoix is a casino and hotel located in Quebec and offers year round gaming in a location steeped in history and culture. The site was only converted into a casino complex in 1994, but it wasn’t until 1998 that Canadian Pacific Hotels and Loto Quebec joined forces to turn the site into the hotel casino it is today.
The venue notes more than a million visitors to the premises each year and is a massive tourist attraction.
Despite the look of the venue, it more than caters to a modern audience. Live music acts and themed party nights make the Casino de Charlevoix a popular night time venue with regular visitors. The casino has offers of free chips if you sign up to their mailing lists and while the venue is smoke free, there are air-conditioned areas for smokers to enjoy. There are 20 table games and 800 slot machines to keep players entertained.
It can be quite cramped on a weekend or during notable events, but there is still always a fantastic atmosphere, and the additional site amenities can keep you distracted between games of Roulette, Baccarat, Blackjack and other favourites. The interior of the casino floor is truly stunning with very spacious gaming rooms featuring lit up ceilings. Beautiful designs and patterns are projected onto large screens on the ceiling, giving some of the rooms an almost heavenly quality.
The 205 hotel rooms available at the Manoir Richelieue were built between 1928 and 1929 on the site of the Manoir’s summer playhouse, which unfortunately burnt down in 1899. This venue hosted numerous renowned acts for vacationers at the scenic Pointe-au-Pic, and today, houses travelers and gamblers in its world-class rooms. The conference centre can host 1000 seater events in its incredible interior space. There is a health club and spa to relax and unwind at. Two outdoor all-season pools are also available, but most notable of all must be the 27-hole golf course. There are very few hotel casinos that can boast their own greens.
The Casino de Charlevoix’s notable nearby attractions includes the breathtaking St Lawrence River and the idyllic Laurentian Mountain range. The St Lawrence is the connecting river between the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean and it crosses two provinces, Ontario and Quebec. The Laurentian Mountains are some of the oldest ranges on the planet, many of its formations dating from the Cambrian period more than 500 million years ago when early life suddenly exploded into a variety of different species. A wonderful casino steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty, the Casino de Charlevoix should be on every Canadians must-visit list.
